2022 TEACHER TRAINING DATES:

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
YogaSource’s 200 Hour Program is designed for students who aim to explore the full potential and spectrum of Yoga as a living art, as well
as for those who feel a call to become, or explore becoming, a Yoga teacher.
The Program begins with a five day immersion in Santa Fe, NM providing you with a potent experience of the Yogic lifestyle and in-depth practice of asana, pranayama and meditation with the lead instructors, Amy Spurlock and Wendelin Scott.
During
the eight months of the training, participants immerse in the origins and timeless practices of Yoga in a safe, supportive and inspired environment for process-based learning. Self-reflection, self-discovery, personal growth and healing are at the heart
of our approach. This program aims to rigorously and joyfully transmit the study and practice of Yoga and along with its methodologies of teaching.
The
YogaSource Training meets and exceeds the 200-hour requirements put forth by Yoga Alliance, the national standard in Yoga education.
WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE, PRACTICE + LEARN:
The emphasis of the program is on deep, experiential practice and learning. Your instructors will be there throughout to guide and mentor you, taking your asana, pranayama, meditation, self-reflection and teaching practices to new levels of understanding and accomplishment. The YogaSource program creates a balance between the time honored and the cutting edge; between the language of symbol and metaphor, and the language of science; between the authentic and original teachings and modern innovation. It is through this carefully crafted balance that we offer you a refined and relevant training that will support you to excel and shine brighter as a person, a Yoga practitioner and potentially as a Yoga teacher.
ASANA
In addition to regular in-depth practice, the program emphasizes understanding and embodying three primary components of the Yoga asanas--
- Alignment: understanding the alignment principles of each asana as a road map to help find the unfettered flow of prana and maximum healing effects for body, mind and breath for any given individual.
- Actions: Demonstrating an understanding of the correct actions of the asana for optimal benefit and therapeutic effect.
- Awareness: Tending to one's inner awareness while practicing the specific techniques.
We will address the technical details of alignment as well as appropriate stages, levels and modifications to help each person achieve a satisfying and relevant practice.
PRANAYAMA
This program will develop an understanding of basic breathing patterns in yourself and others. Additionally, you will be able to coherently practice, demonstrate and instruct the techniques of ujjayi, nadi shodhana, kapalabhati and bhramari.
MEDITATION
You will be skillfully guided and initiated into meditation techniques during the eight month training. You will learn to instruct basic seated guided meditation and supine savasana techniques. These are important techniques for opening and closing Yoga practices and classes, as well as enriching one's own practice.
CHANTING
You will learn chants for invocation at the beginning of classes, mantras for healing, as well as the deeper significance of Om.
EXPERIENTIAL ANATOMY
We feel it is vital for serious students and teachers of Yoga to have a solid foundation in human anatomy and physiology as it is related to the actions and alignment of asana. Our program offers a dynamic dive into experiential anatomy guiding you step by step through how our wonderful human bodies move and function, especially in regards to Yoga Asana. Subtle, or energetic, anatomy will also be included in the curriculum providing essential knowledge of the pranic body within Yoga practice.
PHILOSOPHY + ETHICS
The philosophy component of the program centers on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. You will read key portions of the Yoga Sutras, understand the eight limbs of Yoga as outlined by Patanjali and explore studies of the Yamas (ethical precepts) and Niyamas (personal attributes) through the lens of your own experience and your own life.
Further texts that will be included are the Hatha Yoga Pradapika, Siva Samhita and Gherunda Samhita. There will also be teachings on the main paths of Yoga - Hatha, Raja, Karma, Bhakti, Jnana and Tantra. Additional lectures on the origins, history and lineages of Yoga will be included. The ethics of practicing and teaching Yoga will be woven throughout the program, with an emphasis on enriching one's own capacity for self-reflection and personal transformation.
TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Out of the direct, lived experience of practicing Yoga, we cultivate the understanding of and the tools for how and why to teach Yoga. The training provides concise, logical and practical methods of teaching for a variety of populations and diverse student bodies. Upon completion of the program, we aim for you to be confident enough in your accumulated skills and applied knowledge to take the first steps to enter the field of teaching Yoga. We want our graduates to be clear about why they are practicing and teaching, and to cultivate and share from their own inspired well-spring of knowledge.
PRACTICUM + MENTORSHIP
The student-teacher ratio of this program provides generous personal attention and mentorship. The practicum hours exceed that of Yoga Alliance, and provide ample time to refine and clarify your teaching skills. The practicum hours include practice teaching with support and feedback from instructors as well as public class observation with follow-up writing assignments.
