Willamarie began her yoga journey in 2004, seeking a solution to her growing concern about the unsustainability of the fast-paced, non-stop, east coast urban lifestyle. Her long, uninterrupted, dedicated practice of yoga ever since has been transformational in leading her to a more balanced, healthy lifestyle, eventually resulting in her move to Santa Fe in 2016.
As a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, health coach, writer, and art educator, Willamarie brings decades of teaching and coaching experience to the yoga studio. Rooted in the belief that good teaching emerges from a deep practice, she approaches her daily pranayama and asana practice as an exploration of poses at an increasingly deeper level -- their challenges, their benefits, their variations with the use of props. She is an avid student of yoga philosophy, studying the ancient Indian texts in her quest to understand yoga in all its fullness.
Willamarie prepares her asana classes around an anatomical theme, paired with an appropriate philosophical theme. Her sequences are designed to be accessible to all — safe for beginners and an invitation for more experienced students to dive ever deeper in their poses. Having completed Iyengar yoga teacher training with Patricia Walden and Peentz Dubble, she is grateful to be able to continue studying regularly with them, as well as with other master teachers, including periodic trips to Pune, India to study with the Iyengars. Willamarie teaches regular classes, occasional special workshops, and private sessions tailored to individual students’ needs and goals.
