YogaSource’s Yogic Study & Teacher Training is a two-hundred hour course that offers dedicated Yoga students an intensive 8 months of study and practice. The program is designed for students who aim to explore the full spectrum of Yoga, as well as for those who feel a call to become, or explore becoming, a Yoga teacher. Participants in the program will become well versed in the history, origins and timeless practices of Yoga while at the same time develop the ability to carry forth and transmit this knowledge in a fresh, personal and contemporary way. Our training is a safe, supportive and inspired environment for process-based learning. Self-reflection, self-discovery, personal growth and healing are at the heart of our approach. This program aims to rigorously and joyfully transmit the study and practice of Yoga and its methodologies of teaching.
This YogaSource Program is a deep immersion into asana exploration and training and includes unlimited studio yoga classes with core faculty. Students have access to fully exploring different styles of asana while refining their practice and honing their art as a teacher. This program is very unique in that it offers qualified graduates the opportunity to teach at YogaSource in the Donation Class Program. The Donation Class Program supports graduates in gaining precious and essential teaching experience.
The YogaSource Yogic Study & Teacher Training meets and exceeds the 200-hour requirements put forth by Yoga Alliance the national standard in Yoga education.
A deep, experiential dive into the many dimensions of Yoga...
Your instructors will be there throughout to guide and mentor you, taking your asana, pranayama, meditation, self-reflection and teaching practices to new levels of awareness and accomplishment. Our program creates a balance between the time honored and the cutting edge; between the language of symbol and metaphor, and the language of science; between the authentic and original teachings and modern innovation. It is through this carefully crafted balance that we offer you a refined and relevant training that will support you to excel and shine brighter as a person and as a Yoga teacher. One of the departure points for our program is to embrace the reality that the main avenue of teaching Yoga to others is through the hour and a half yoga class in a Yoga studio. Graduates of our program will hone their abilities to offer the full-spectrum of yogic teachings within the context of an hour and a half class with clarity, integrity, and unique personal brilliance.
What you will experience, practice and learn:
These three primary components will address the technical details of alignment, but also stages, appropriate levels and modifications, as well as a wealth of therapeutic effects of Yoga practice. The primary learning objectives of the in depth asana study will include:
- Alignment: Demonstrating the technical understanding of the correct alignment of each asana, usage of props, and appropriate modifications.
- Actions: Demonstrating an understanding of the correct actions of the asana for optimal benefit and therapeutic effect.
- Awareness: Tending to one's inner awareness while practicing the specific techniques.
Each student will have a foundation of understanding basic breathing patterns in themselves and others. Additionally, one will be able to properly practice, demonstrate and instruct the techniques of ujjayi, nadi shodhana, kapalabhati and bhramari.
Each student will be able to instruct basic seated guided meditation and supine savasana techniques. These are important techniques for opening and closing Yoga practices and classes, as well as enriching one's own practice.
Students will learn chants for invocation at the beginning of classes, mantras for healing, as well as the deeper significance of Om.
Our experiential anatomy classes are a major component of the two hundred hour training. We feel it is vital for a Yoga teacher to have a solid foundation in human anatomy and physiology as it is related to the actions and alignment of asana, for safe practice and teaching. There will be more then twenty hours of dynamic anatomy instruction to help inform your practice and further teach you how the human body works within asana in order for it to create a therapeutic effect. Subtle, or energetic, anatomy will also be included in the curriculum providing essential knowledge of the prana body within Yoga practice.
PHILOSOPHY + ETHICS
The primary focus of the philosophy component of this program is Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Each student will read the Yoga sutras, understand the eight limbs of Yoga as outlined by Patanjali and apply studies of the Yamas (ethical precepts) and Niyamas (personal attributes) to their own life. Further texts that will be included are the Hatha Yoga Pradapika, Siva Samhita and Gherunda Samhita. There will also be teachings on the main paths of Yoga - Hatha, Raja, Karma, Bhakti, Jnana and Tantra. Additional lectures on the origins, history and lineages of Yoga will be included. The ethics of practicing and teaching Yoga will be woven throughout the program, as well as specific courses and personal assignments to enrich one's own capacity for self-reflection and personal transformation will be included.
The primary focus of our program is in teaching methodology. When you complete our program we wish for you to feel confident with your accumulated skills and applied knowledge to enter the field of teaching Yoga. We also wish to see that our graduates are inspired about why they are teaching, and share from their own direct well-spring of knowledge that comes from their path of living Yoga. Our graduates will come away from our program with a clear and vibrant personalized teaching methodology. We intend to impart to our participants the methodology of Yoga in a way that provides continual renewal and inspiration. At the same time, we aim to provide concise, logical and practical methods of teaching for a variety of populations and diverse student bodies.
PRACTICUM + MENTORSHIP
The student-teacher ratio of our program will provide generous personal attention and mentorship. Our practicum hours exceed that of Yoga Alliance, and will provide ample time to refine and clarify your teaching skills.
